Obituary

Sioux Falls - Mary Ann DeMers, 85, Sioux Falls and formerly of Rapid City, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls. She was born January 27, 1928 in Hand County, SD in the home of her parents, Leo and Mayme [Kopecky] Foerster. Following graduation from high school, Mary Ann continued her education and earned her LPN nursing certificate in 1950. She married Leo DeMers on November 26, 1953 at Polo, SD. Leo and Mary Ann farmed near Colome, SD and raised their five children in the area over the next 32 years. In 1985 they moved to Rapid City where they worked in apartment management for several years and eventually retired. Mary Ann was active in the Tripp County Extension Club, the Colome Catholic Daughters, and the Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary as a volunteer. She enjoyed being around her family and seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren growing up. Mary Ann is survived by five children: Larry [Ellen] DeMers of Fort Collins, CO, Kathy [Joel] Hybertson and Leanne [Troy] Turney of Sioux Falls, Patricia [Perry] Simunek of Gillette, WY and Janet [Mark] Moyer of Stoneville, SD; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Marce Craze of Chandler, AZ and Bea Foerster of Faulkton, SD; and one brother: Art Foerster of Lincoln, NE. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband Leo, her parents Leo and Mayme Foerster, her sister Bonnie Derryberry, and two brothers Lee Foerster and Dwayne Foerster. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Sunday, March 17 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 4500 Jackson Boulevard, followed by a Christian Wake Service and Rosary at 7 pm. Christian Mass will be at 10:00 am Monday, March 18 at the church with Rev. Timothy Castor, presiding. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary, 353 Fairmont Boulevard, Rapid City, SD 57701.
