Obituary

Mary Ann Fakler left this world to her final destination meeting Jesus and the many loved ones who were in Heaven to welcome her on Wednesday, June 3, 2020.  She did not want to spend another anniversary alone. She was surrounded by her children at the Advanced Care Hospital of Montana in Billings.

Mary Ann was born to Paul and Katherine Chapdelaine on May 12, 1936 in Conrad, Montana. Her family moved to Rapid City where she attended the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Grade and High School. During third grade she and her mother moved to Carpio, North Dakota to live with her Aunt Mary and Uncle Joe Sauer and their nine children who became her brothers and sisters. While in high school, Mary Ann worked for Ralph McMahon Seed and Feed. She then attained her RN degree from St. John School of Nursing. After Nurses Training, she became a school nurse for the Rapid City School District until she met the love of her life, William P. Fakler. They were married on June 6, 1959 and to this union four children were born: Celia, Mark, Julie, and David. Mary Ann spent her time at home raising the four little Faklers. In 1971 Mary Ann started in her role as school nurse for the Douglas School System. She retired from Douglas in 1995. She continued her nursing career in Dr. Gerti Janss' Allergy Clinic from 1996 until 2016.

Mary Ann was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, Catholic, friend, and nurse. No matter what she chose to do she was dedicated to the cause. She was glad to know that her Republican vote counted in the June 2 election! She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church and Catholic Daughters. She was also a member of the Canyon Lake Activity Center and a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation committee member. Mom showed grace and courage during her lifetime that inspired those around her.

Mary Ann loved playing with food in the kitchen. She was "world renowned" for her cinnamon rolls! Mary Ann spent many hours sitting at her sewing machine. She made wedding gowns, drapes, and reupholstered furniture. She enjoyed traveling and was able to visit England, Alaska, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Banff, Jasper, Glacier National Park, and Yellowstone. More than anything, Mary Ann loved spending time with family and especially her grandchildren: Liesel, Wyatt, and Matt.

Those left to treasure her memory are: son David (Jody) Fakler and step-grandchildren Sydnee (Will) and Cyrus (Bree); daughter Julie Fakler (Ty Johnson) and granddaughter Liesel; son Mark (Susie Costa) Fakler and grandsons Wyatt and Matthew; and daughter Celia (Cele) Fakler. Her Sauer family members include: Marge Knoll, Willie Sauer, Lyle Sauer, Geri Stefanich, Lyle Sauer, and Cathy Gumeringer. Those welcoming Mary Ann are her husband William, mother Katherine Chapdelaine, father Paul Chapdelaine, Brother and sister-in-law Howard and Suzanne Hopp, as well as Sauer family members: Aunt Mary and Uncle Joe Sauer, Harold Sauer, Kelly Sauer, Earl Sauer, and Richard Sauer.

Memorial money may be sent to Celia Fakler at 2940 Dundee St., Rapid City, SD 57702. These will be donated to Mary Ann's favorite charities.
