Hade

RAPID CITY – Mary Carlin Hade was born to Carl Donatus Anderson and Olive Clare Mitchell Anderson on August 1, 1922, in Newell, South Dakota. She passed away on July 16, 2023, in Rapid City at the age of 100 years, 11 months and 16 days.
Mary was raised on the family farm two miles south of Newell along Horse Creek, east of highway 79, the eldest of two brothers and four sisters. She loved riding the family horse, Prince. She attended Milberg Country School and graduated from Newell High School in 1940. Mary attended St. John's McNamara Hospital of Nursing in Rapid City and became a registered nurse in 1943. She worked as a nurse at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California. After a few years, Mary moved back to Rapid City and enjoyed working at Rapid City Medical Center for Dr. Bailey and Dr. Kobza.
On September 29, 1949, she married Merle Dean Hade and in 1951, ended her nursing career to become a homemaker and raise their three children. Mary was a past president, five-year officer, and a lifetime member of the Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does, Drove 33 of Rapid City. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Rita #16, receiving her 65-year pin last year. She was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 1273.
Mary valued her participation in Does and the friends she made there. She loved and enjoyed her younger siblings and her may nieces and nephews. She enjoyed beadwork, cross-stitching, and baking cookies for her grandchildren. Her Catholic faith guided her life.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Merle, parents Carl and Olive Anderson, brothers, Dale and Kenneth Anderson, and sisters, Catherine Satzinger and Judy Gretschmann. She was also preceded in death by her sisters-in-law, Clarice Anderson and Mary Anderson and brothers-in-law, Dick Friedel, Bob Fischer, and Curt Satzinger, niece, Gwen Anderson and son-in-law, Ron Koskela.
Mary is survived by her sisters, Esther Fischer and Jane Friedel, brother-in-law, Dean Gretschmann, daughter, Carol Koskela, sons, Dean (Susan) Hade and Andrew (Sheri) Hade, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and 23 nieces and nephews.
A Christian Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rapid City with a luncheon to follow. A private, family burial will take place later at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does, Drove 33 of Rapid City or the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Rita #16.
