Lincoln, Nebraska - Mary Lee J. Montgomery, 91 and formerly of Rapid City died Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Monarch Hospice House in Lincoln. Mary Lee Butzine was born June 16, 1923 at Hay Springs, Nebraska to Emil Julius and Mable Louise [Hitchcock] Butzine. She attended school and graduated from high school and then received a vo-tech certificate. She married Laurel Jay "Tom" Eatherton on June 1, 1943 at Rapid City, SD. Mary was active in her church, the Sunday school and women's activities. She was a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader for her children's troops and supported their school activities. Tom died on January 3, 1958. After Tom's death she worked as church secretary at Canyon Lake Methodist Church. She then married Harold Louie Montgomery on March 17, 1963 at Rapid City. She knitted and crocheted and did craft projects, often with her children. She was an avid reader and still was reading a book a week before her death. She faced many challenges during her life, but always with strength and courage. She is survived by her children: Jeffrey S. Eatherton of Waxahachie, Texas, Brian W. Montgomery of Torrington, Wyoming, and Diane E. [George] Robie of Lincoln, Nebraska; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one daughter in law: Jeannie Eatherton. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Lawrence Butzine; son: David J. Eatherton; sisters: Merle [Hans] Peterson, Marion [Carl] Morris, Doris [George] Gaswick, Wilma "Billie" [Ralph] Raetz; and both husbands: Laurel J. "Tom" Eatherton and Harold Montgomery. Visitation will be 4-6 pm Wednesday, October 22 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10 am, Thursday, October 23 at Canyon Lake United Methodist Church, 3500 Canyon Lake Drive with Rev. Eric Grinager officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery at Rapid City.
