Greeley, Colorado--Mary E. "Merch" Rockafellow, 91, of Greeley, CO, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Sterling House. She was born December 4, 1917 in Montrose, SD to Thomas Patrick and Lillian Francis (Zimmerman) McDonnell. She married Marvin "Stonie" Rockafellow on March 28, 1936 in Salem, SD, and he died on January 20, 1999. She was formerly from Rapid City and graduated from Montrose High School in South Dakota. She moved to Greeley three years ago. "Merch" helped on the family farm after World War II, and then worked as a housekeeper at Gill's Sun Inn in Rapid City, SD. She was a member of the Catholic faith. The family would like to thank the staff at Sterling House for the loving care, where "Merch" was a resident for the last three years. She is survived by her son, Raymond Rockafellow and wife, Judy, of Frederick, CO and sister, Marilyn and husband, Lou Miller, of Rapid City, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Jackie West, three brothers, and four sisters. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 15, 2009 at the Sterling House. Another service will be held at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home on Saturday, May 30, at 1 p.m. Inurnment will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Valley Health Care in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th Street, Greeley, CO.
