IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Jane
Steele
January 11, 1932 – May 19, 2020
Our precious Mom, Grandma, Sister, Auntie, Cousin, and Friend made her journey to the Spirit World on May 19, 2020 at the age of 88.
She was born on January 11, 1932 on Cuny Table to Wilson and Florence (Twiss) Cuny.
She was raised in the Rockyford area and attended Holy Rosary Mission.
She married Donald A. Steele Sr. at St. Peters Catholic Church on December 12, 1953 in Rockyford, SD. They raised 12 beautiful children. Mary Jane lived at Rockyford, SD all her life. Mary Jane was very devoted to all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She began working in food service for the Manderson Day School in late 70's, retiring as Supervisor in 1993.
Mom was honored as an Elder of Wounded Knee District in 2018.
Mary Jane was an inspiration to everyone who was in her life. She was a hardworking woman. Mary Jane would make sure things were done the way she liked.
Mary Jane made her home a beautiful place to be and everyone was always welcomed with a smile. She had a beautiful yard which she created with her own bare hands.
She loved to sew, plant and cook. If she knew you were coming to visit, she always had a meal prepared and if possible, she had pie prepared too. She made different crafts and star quilts after she retired. She passed this talent on to her daughters. Many days you would find her driving down the road by herself to visit neighbors or family when she was able to drive. After her health problems took her ability to drive, she would often dream of the days of better health just so she was able to drive again.
