Obituary

Rapid City - Mary Wagner, age 83, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, surrounded by her beloved husband and their six children who loved her deeply. She was born on November 13, 1942, in Linton, North Dakota, to Lorenz and Anna Mary (Malsom) Deisz, who raised her in the Catholic faith and with strong values of kindness and devotion to family that she carried throughout her life.

In 1959, Mary married the love of her life, Ray Wagner, and together they began a life rooted in love, partnership, and shared dreams. They moved to Rapid City which they proudly called home for the next 66 years raising their family, enjoying many friendships, and contributing to the community. They especially loved camping, motorcycle riding, playing cards, dancing (always dancing!) and traveling. She had a long endearing friendship with her 'sister friends' and was grateful for their affection through her last days.

Mary had a quiet strength and a generous heart, always putting others before herself and finding joy in the simple moments spent with those she loved most. Her life was a beautiful reflection of compassion, strength, joy, resilience, and unwavering love for her family.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband Ray; sister Katie Hager; brother Mike Deisz; brother-in-law Elmer Wagner; children Sharon (James) Jones, Janet (Herb) Schmitt, Wayne (Cari) Wagner, Tom (Mindy) Wagner, Lisa (Scott) Durgin and Jeremy (Marilyn) Wagner; grandchildren Rachel (Dan) Rosenberg, Erika Landis, Brandon Lindemann, Kimberly (Derek) Helmick, Miranda Morris, Christopher Wagner, Alex (Sarah) Wagner, Alise (Stephen) Brandt, Mitchell Wagner, Nick (Jocelyn) Wagner, Jack Wagner, Katie (Trey) DeGarmo, Caleb Durgin, Cameron Durgin, Hannah Durgin, Elijah Wagner, Luke Wagner, Jonah Wagner, Trinity Wagner and Grace Wagner; step grandchildren Abby Jones and Dustin Ecker; great-grandchildren Sean Rosenberg, Mason Helmick, Aiden Helmick, Zane Morris, Banks Brandt, Alfie Brandt; step great-grandchildren Zoey Viljevek, Zaiden Viljevek, Oliver Viljevek, Chasity (Tom)Lindberg, James Ecker, Harley Ecker and Charley Ecker. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews and always loved the many visits, calls and thoughtful cards and pictures they send at Christmas.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Matt Deisz; sisters Betty Gabriel and Tillie Rath, brothers-in-law Joe Hager and Wilbur Rath; sisters-in-law Rose Deisz, Freda Deisz, Angie Deisz and Marcella Deisz.
