Matthew Ryan Holub, 42, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Monument Health – Rapid City.

Matt was born on August 29, 1983, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to Terry and Nancy (Pederson) Holub. He graduated from Wall High School, where he was active in football and wrestling as well as theater and choir, landing lead roles in several plays.

Matt carried his love of theatre into adulthood, volunteering with the Mason City Community Theatre, where he served on the board for more than a decade and took part in dozens of shows. He was also part of BrickStreet Theatre in Forest Lake, Iowa, from its very beginning. One friend shared, "Matt was rock solid on stage: his timing was impeccable, his lines and interpretation were consistent, and he truly had fun in every role he played." BrickStreet Theatre shared, "Matt will be remembered for all the fun times working with him onstage and off and perhaps most of all his laugh that could fill an auditorium." Mason City Community Theatre shared, "Matt had a larger-than-life personality and a laugh that was absolutely infectious. His dedication to the theatre over the years is to be commended. Not only was he onstage, but he helped wherever he was needed. A true theatre person, Matt delivered consistently great performances and had the most fun when he was onstage. To act with Matt was to immerse yourself into the characters and have an absolute ball."

Matt was an avid sports fan whose loyalty belonged to the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Braves, Michigan Wolverines, and New Jersey Devils.

Above all, Matt will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. His sharp wit, attention to detail, and infectious laugh will be forever missed.

Matt was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Holub; infant sister, Jennifer Rose; maternal grandparents, Gordon and Betty Lou Pederson; paternal grandparents, Frank and Marie Holub; uncles, James Pederson and Gary Pederson; aunt, Carol Naescher; and cousin, Nick Niemann.

Matt is survived by his father, Terry Holub, of Rapid City; brother, Grant Holub, of Rapid City; nephew, Greysen Mann; uncle and aunt, Duane (Pat) Holub, of Lamoni, Iowa; and cousins, Christopher Holub, Jacie Palizzolo, and Tyler Niemann.
