January 15, 1986 – February 24, 2026

Matthew “Matt” Young, 40, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, in Rapid City. He was a kind and loving soul who was taken way too soon and will be missed by so many.

Matt was born January 15, 1986, to Mike and Jana (Thomsen) Young in Rapid City, South Dakota. He was the older brother to Brandon. His family moved to Omaha in 1995, and he graduated from Burke High School in 2004.

After graduation Matt returned to Rapid City and began his construction career. He found his career spot with Stanley J. Johnsen Concrete which later sold to Complete Concrete. Matt had tremendous pride in the high-quality work that he and his co-workers created. His mentors and co-workers were very special to Matt.

In his spare time, Matt loved being out in nature. He enjoyed boating, fishing, searching for rocks and agates in Fairburn and shark teeth and seashells on the beaches in Florida. He also took up golfing in recent years.

Grateful to have shared in his life are his parents Mike and Jana of Hermosa, brother Brandon and his wife Brittany, his beloved niece Khloe of Hermosa and niece Emily of Britton. Aunts and Uncles including Kathy (Thomsen) and Dave Crabb, Larry and Gina Thomsen, Steve and Missy Thomsen, Les Young, all of Rapid City.

Cousins Dylan Thomsen and Taylor Reber, Marissa (Thomsen) and Joey Delaney, Tayler and Abby Thomsen, Trevor Thomsen, Tony Young and Tanner and Jessica Young.

Matt is also survived by his daughter Callie who he loved very much.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City. Please join us for a celebration of Matt’s life, following at 2:30 PM at the DoubleTree Rapid City downtown (civic center) in the Black Hills Ballroom.
