IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maureen E.
Sliper
September 5, 1936 – October 18, 2016
Lead, SD
Maureen Sliper, 80, surrounded by family, passed away Tuesday evening October 18, 2016 at Spearfish Regional Hospital. She will always be remembered as a mother to many and a friend to all.
Maureen was born September 5, 1936 in Menno, SD to John & Hildegard (Preszler) Jundt. After high school she attended SDSU, graduating with a bachelor degree in nursing. While in college she met her husband of nearly 57 years, Bob Sliper. They were married November 8, 1959 in Menno, SD. For several years she was a nurse at various locations around the country while Bob served in the Navy and attended college. In 1964 they settled down in Lead where she resided until just recently. Maureen took a break from nursing to raise their children, working part time at the New York Store in Deadwood. As an empty nester, she returned to nursing at Black Hills Special Services where she had a positive impact on and "raised" another batch of "her kids".
Maureen was a woman filled with love and grace for all (well, most). Her Duchess, daisies, traveling, camping, the Brooklyn Dodgers and a red beer held a special place in her heart. She devoted her talent and love of music to the Bell Choir and Boys Choir at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lead. Her family, friends, neighbors and the gals in Beta meant the world to Maureen.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Sue & Brian Artz, Bismarck; son, Mike & Laurie Sliper, Rapid City; sister in law and husband, Bette & Harlan Gellhaus; along with several nieces and nephews and her most cherished grandchildren, Samuel Artz and Nick & Madelyn Sliper.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Hildegard Jundt; in-laws, Harold & Esther Sliper; sister in law, Beverly Kessler and niece, Jan Walker.
Graveside Services will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery on Monday, October 24 at 1:00pm. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 at the VFW in Deadwood.
Memorials may be given to the Shepherd of the Hills Bell Choir and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
