Obituary

RAPID CITY - Maxine Knickrehm, 102, Rapid City, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at Golden Living Center of the Black Hills. Maxine was born in Doland on Aug. 15, 1909, to John Frank and Lura (Stephenson) Austin. She graduated from Doland High School in 1928. Maxine and Earl Knickrehm were married June 5, 1933, and lived on the Knickrehm farm north of Lake Byron. They lived there until his death in 1964 and she then moved to Sioux Falls. She was a 60-year member of the Rebekah Lodge, a member of the Methodist church and a devoted volunteer for the Sioux Valley Hospital Auxiliary in Sioux Falls. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Lou (Wayne) Saugstad, Rapid City, Karen (Robert) Nelson, Billings, Mont., and Bonnie (Wayne) Gutzmer, Black Hawk; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Knickrehm; brother, Gerald Austin; and sister Velma Bielski Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mary Ann Sheldon officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Riverside Cemetery in Huron. Memorials have been established to Sunnycrest Village: 3900 S.
