April 25, 1924 – November 18, 2024
After a long and full life, Maxine Marjorie Koppert passed away due to natural causes at the age of 100 on November 18, 2024, in Rapid City, SD. Maxine entered the world on April 25, 1924, in Bismarck, ND, to Herman and Della Pillen. She had two brothers, Donald Francis Pillen and Harold Mathias Pillen.
Her family moved to Huron, SD, in 1940 where she met her future husband, Donald Koppert, in high school. She played the trumpet in band and was honored to play taps at veteran funerals. After high school, she moved to Washington DC where she was a secretary at the Pentagon before moving back to Huron to marry Donald on June 18th, 1947. After living in Japan for 1 year with Donald, they moved back to the states in1952 and settled in Rapid City. She retired from the Rapid City Schools where she was in the administrative office at West Middle School and Stevens High School.
She enjoyed playing bridge, golf, and was an avid basketball fan. She also loved to laugh.
She is survived by her sons Dick and Jim, Jim's wife Lynn, 2 grandchildren Eric and Kayla, and 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 9:00 am to 10:00 am Tuesday, November 26 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the funeral mass at 10:00 am.
Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
She is forever loved and will be greatly missed.
