Obituary

Maxine F. Patterson, 83, died at Rapid City Regional Hospital on Friday, May 13, 2011. She was born on March 25, 1928, in Huron, to Clarence and Anna (Knowles) DeBauche and grew up on a farm outside of Huron. Maxine was united in marriage to Gene Patterson on August 15, 1947 in Philip. After their marriage the couple began their family while living in Kadoka. Gene and Maxine operated several business ventures, including The Badlands Motel and a Mobil Service Station in Kadoka. After fire damaged their home in 1967, the entire family, including 8 children, moved to Rapid City where they continued in numerous businesses (Enco Station, Patterson Auto Supply, Macs Shoe Store, Patterson Equipment Co). Maxine operated Macs Shoe Store, which was located next door to Genes Patterson Auto Supply. The Flood of 1972 destroyed both businesses. Patterson Auto Supply was reopened on Sturgis Road and later re-located to East Rapid City. After yet another fire, Patterson Farm Equipment in Piedmont was started. Gene appreciated Maxines accounting and office expertise for all of these family business ventures. As the last of her children completed high school, Maxine worked for the city as a parking official and eventually as an animal control officer. While on a call, Maxine was involved in a dreadful auto accident. She spent many weeks in the hospital and many months recovering. For the past decade, Maxine enjoyed raising her two dogs, Spot and Heidi. She truly loved animals and was involved with animal protection and rescue organizations. Maxine will always be remembered for her great love of family. Her home was the gathering place for family and friends for chats, hugs, laughs, coffee and treats. Survivors include her husband Gene Patterson, Rapid City; 4 daughters: Connie (James) Meyerring of Lone Jack MO; Carol Vroman (Randy) McKee, Daphne Bickett and Robin Patterson all of Rapid City and 4 sons: Terre (Marilyn) Patterson of Pierre, Dennis (Brandie) Patterson of Dennison TX, Jeffrey (Yvonne) Patterson of Lander WY and Michael (Sharon) Patterson of Monument CO and 2 sisters: Betty Neuman of Mesa, AZ and Sandra (Joe) Mattsfield of Darwin MN; over two dozen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Margo Patterson and a brother, Clarence Sonny DeBauche. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 16, at the Kadoka Presbyterian Church in Kadoka with Rev. Gary McCubbin officiating. Burial will follow in the Kadoka Cemetery.
