Obituary

Maybelle Lucille (Gallo) Giesler ("May" as she liked to be called), 87, passed away on September 22, 2021.  She was born on March 24, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Lucille and Robert Norman.  Upon her father's death and Lucille's remarriage, May was adopted by her stepfather Renaldo Gallo.  She graduated from Lead High School and then from National College of Business in Rapid City.  After college, May married (later divorced) and to this union had one daughter, Mattie.

Maybelle worked at Ellis Insurance Agency and then for the Safeway Stores for many years and in 1984 met and married the love of her life, John Giesler.  May later went to work for Regional Hospital in the library and medical records departments and retired from here.

She was raised a Catholic and went to Catholic schools and enjoyed her Catholic TV channel and the Bible and her prayer books to the very end.  She loved her faith and her God.

May enjoyed playing cards, particularly an avid bridge player for years, and played lots of Uno, Yahtzee, Scrabble, and Rummikub with her kids and grandkids.

She also had MANY friendships through all the different things she did and loved.  She was a very good friend of Bill W. and through this, acquired many longtime friends.  She was very dedicated to this part of her life.

She loved candy!  Hershey Kisses were one of her favorites and she loved to share with anyone who would eat them with her! She also made the best pumpkin pie and chocolate chip cookies!

May was most passionate about her family. She was a wonderful mother, daughter, wife, grandma, and most recently a great grandma.  She loved talking about her new great grandson to anyone who would listen!

She followed her grandkids through their sports as much as she could and was a great babysitter with her grandkids.  She adored this time with them.

May was kind, honest, and a bit feisty, even in her last moments (guess this was the Italian in her).  She will be missed by so many!

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, John.  She is survived by her daughter, Mattie (Lonny) Ryman, her stepchildren, Deb (Terry) Sabers, Jim (Shawn) Giesler, Larry Giesler, and Al (Susan) Giesler; her grandchildren, Cassie (Shane) McKinney, Alec Ryman, and step grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her most beloved newest great grandchild, Finn McKinney.

A Memorial Service will be held at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 1:00 pm, followed by burial service at the Black Hills National Cemetery at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospitals.
