Maysel Christine (Iversen) Penticoff, 94, died July 26, 2022, in Casper, Wyoming, at Wyoming Medical Center. She was born October 8, 1927, to Kruse and Mabel (Atkinson) Iversen at the home of George and Daisy Hempsted in Murdo, South Dakota. She grew up on her parents' ranch northeast of Murdo. Maysel attended school in Murdo, beginning in the 3 rd grade at age 7, and graduated from Murdo High School in 1945. Following high school, she earned a degree in bookkeeping from the National College of Business in Rapid City. She married Lewis Marvin Penticoff November 16, 1946, at the Methodist parsonage in Murdo. They began their marriage in Rapid City, where Maysel worked for the Tri-State Milling Company and Marvin worked at McMahon Milling Company. They later farmed north of New Underwood before moving back to Rapid City in 1959, where Maysel worked for Wamsley's Decorating and Marvin drove for Barber Transportation. Marvin retired in 1987 and they then spent winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. After Marvin's death January 9, 1996, Maysel continued to winter in Apache Junction and spent time visiting all her family and friends.
Maysel participated in community activities throughout her life. She was a high school cheerleader, a high school debate team member, an officer and member of the New Underwood B-Y's Extension Club, and a Little League scorekeeper. A mother of seven children, Maysel was involved in the schools for twenty years. She was an accomplished seamstress and could make curtains or a prom dress or recover a couch. She spent over 40 years researching family genealogy, including a trip to Denmark and England to visit family and ancestral homes.
Maysel is survived by her children Jeanie (Dennis) Jay, Marla (Steve) Grove, Mary Rogers, Bruce (Carolyn Heppner) Penticoff, Bob (Starr Ewert) Penticoff, Theresa Green, Craig (Alda Segers) Penticoff. She is also survived by her fourteen grandchildren: Peter (Mollie McCormack) Jay and Laura (Michael) Jay Howe, Gina Grove and Andrew (Tara Smoker) Grove, Stacey (Greg DeWitt) Rogers and Scott (Stacey Weinrich) Rogers, Christy (Scott ) Penticoff Heusted, Jessica (Aaron Little Bald Eagle) Penticoff, Eric and Miles Penticoff, Tabitha (Michael Milhiser) Green and Trista (Jason Archibald) Green and Tony (Samantha Carmona) Green and by her 32 great-grandchildren: Ivy Jay, Kris (Bailey Guest) Howe, Victoria (Jared) Howe Johnston, Nicholas (Irene Ward) Howe, Madison (Daniel) Howe Hemmer, Reagan Howe, Caoilinn, Karianne and Stephen Grove-Collins, Evelyn Grove-Smith, Anders, Vivian and Warner Grove, Trysten and Logan (Aurelio Basurto) Hawkins, Breanna DeWitt, Keshawn Weinrich, Payton, Colton, Cooper and Kinsey Rogers, Noah (Eirin Fike) Penticoff, Kaylee Penticoff, Liam Heusted, Brynleigh Little Bald Eagle, Tallulah Penticoff, Isabella and Leilani Gonzales, Dylan and Ryan Archibald, Victoria and Elizabeth Green and 8 great-great-grandchildren Ashley and Jayden Cameron, Mary and Chatronia Johnston, Bently Hemmer, Scarlett and Elias Basurto, and Opal Penticoff. She was very close to the Penticoff and Ferraro nieces and nephews and the cousins on the Iversen side of the family.
She was preceded in death by Marvin, her parents, sons-in-law Mike Rogers and Dwight Nielsen, granddaughter Tanya Rogers Hawkins, great-granddaughter Arianna Little Bald Eagle and great-great-grandson Misha Penticoff.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. on Monday, August 15th with the service at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16th at Osheim & Schmidt, 2700 Jackson Blvd. Interment will be at noon at the Black Hills National Cemetery, followed by a reception at Hills View E-Free Church, 13776 Sturgis Road, Piedmont, South Dakota.
