IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Melanie Lynn
Sargeant
March 2, 1981 – May 29, 2025
Melanie Lynn Bryant Sargeant, 44, of Rapid City, went to the arms of Jesus on Thursday, May 29, 2025, after a brief stay at Monument Health due to multi-system organ failure. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.
Melanie was born on March 2, 1981, in Everett, Washington, the youngest of three biological children born to Jerry and Linda (Neely) Bryant.
On May 24, 2003, Melanie married the love of her life, Neil Sargeant. During their 22 years of marriage, Melanie and Neil joyfully raised three wonderful children—Isabel, Riley, and Avery. Melanie poured her heart and soul into her family and was always present for every milestone, game, recital, and performance. She was the proudest mama in every room.
Melanie's early years were filled with music and sports. She was an active soccer player and a gifted vocalist who sang in choirs and at the weddings of cherished friends and family. She graduated from Rapid City Stevens High School in 1999. In December 2008, she earned her associate degree in nursing from the University of South Dakota, later completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in 2015.
Her nursing career began at Rapid City Regional Hospital as a bedside RN. Melanie's compassion and drive led her through various roles including case manager for Monument Health, assistant director of nursing, hospice nurse manager, and quality and safety nurse. She concluded her career as a nurse case manager with Paradigm Complex Care Solutions, where she earned her Commission for Case Management Certification.
Melanie was a bright light, full of laughter, warmth, and wisdom. She lived life out loud—traveling, road-tripping, and adventuring with her family, always seeking joy in new experiences. She had a beautiful singing voice and an unforgettable sense of humor that could lift anyone's spirits. She was a strong, intelligent, and radiant soul who touched countless lives.
A lover of music, Melanie fulfilled her concert dreams by seeing Kelly Clarkson, Céline Dion, and her favorite artist, P!nk, live. One of her favorite sayings was, "God always picks the prettiest flowers first," and a verse she held dear was Proverbs 31:25: "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future."
Melanie is survived by her beloved husband, Neil Sargeant; her children Isabel (Jason Summers) Bryant, Riley Sargeant, and Avery Sargeant; her parents Jerry and Linda Bryant; her siblings Calista (Ryan) Peterson and their children Ella and Owen, Dallas (Tesa) Bryant and their children Logan, Olivia, and Sofia, Anna Bryant, Hope Bryant, Anika Bryant, and Reagan Bryant; her grandmother Leonne Neely-Geary; her mother-in-law Mary Renka; her brother-in-law Jon (Shannon) Sargeant and their children Chris and Megan; her cherished dogs Willow and Coco; and many other extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Richard Bryant, Betty (Ann) Benjamin Crider, and John Jones; her maternal grandfathers George Neely and David Geary; her cousin Carrie Bryant Baker; and her nephew Alex Sargeant.
A celebration of Melanie's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Open Bible Church.
