Rapid City Melvin K. Madsen, 84, Rapid City, died at his residence on Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Melvin K. Madsen was born September 5, 1925 at Irene, South Dakota to Jens and Minnie [Biesman] Madsen. This is the area he attended school and grew to adulthood. As the only son he helped his father on the family farm. He married Beverly Mabel Jones on June 14, 1946 at Woonsocket, SD. They lived on a farm in the Artesian, SD area until moving to Rapid City in 1957. Melvin worked for Metz Bakery for 20 years as a driver and then began working for Fischer Furniture where he was employed as a salesman for 35 years until he retired. Melvin was a huge baseball fan, esp. the Atlanta Braves. He also coached little league baseball. He liked to fish, esp. at night. He was a hard worker in everything he did and expected everyone else to work hard. He loved to work in his yard and his yard had to be immaculate. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Survivors include three sons, Dennis (Patti) Madsen of Gainesville Georgia, Darcy Madsen and Darrell Madsen both of Rapid City; seven grandchildren: Ward Hilger, Justin Madsen, Jessica Madsen, Michelle Kline and her husband Ron, Angel Pope, Tony Madsen, and Stephanie Franck and five great-grandchildren: Garrett, Gage, and Griffin Kline and Tobia and Hezekhia Franck. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beverly, one daughter Melvajean and four sisters. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Monday July 19th at Osheim and Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday July 20th at Faith Lutheran Church in Rapid City with Rev. Jeff Rohr officiating. Inurnment at Mt. View Cemetery at a later date. A memorial has been established for Rapid City Club for Boys and Minneluzahan Senior Citizen Center.
