Obituary

Michael Alan Cole, age 58, passed away at Rapid City Regional Hospital on June 15, 2014 after an extended battle with his health. Born on February 16, 1956 in Rapid City, to Doyle and Margret (Johnson) Cole, Mike spent the greater part of his life building. Not only did he build some of the most beautiful homes you have ever seen but more importantly than that he built relationships. Mike worked quietly and with precision to build strong relationships with his family, friends, coworkers and the love of his life, Wanda. Mike also had the most important relationship of all. He had a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His passion and love for Jesus was evident in every decision that he made, including the tough medical decisions he was faced with throughout this last year. Mike spent several years in Kansas City and Virginia where he was the Manager of a manufacturing facility, but his love for family and the Black Hills brought him back to Rapid City. Mike loved to spend time at the lake, looking out over the water and savoring the beauty of the sun as it rose and set each day. He and Wanda loved to ride their Harley and together they enjoyed any day that they could get outside and soak in the beauty of the Hills. Mike loved any sport whether playing or watching. He had a special passion for his' Minnesota Vikings, making several trips to see them play. Survivors include parents Margret and Doyle Cole; brothers Phillip Cole and Robert Cole; a sister Lori Peterson; his wife Wanda Cole, a step daughter Teri Houdek and step son Ross Whitley, of Greenville, South Carolina. A viewing will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Blvd. At the same time, a celebration of life will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Old Storybook Island Shelter off Canyon Lake Drive. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for food and fellowship at the shelter after they pay their respects or come directly to the shelter. A special thanks to everyone for their prayers and for all of the help and support during this tough time.
