NEW UNDERWOOD--Michael Francis Olic, 54, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010, at Lake Angostura, while enjoying time in the presence of his daughters. Mike was born May 21, 1956 in Rapid City to Frank and Margaret Olic. He grew up on his family homestead in the badlands outside Imlay, SD where he first learned how to ride a horse, swing a rope, swing a hammer, and bait a line. He attended grade school in Scenic and graduated from Wall High School in 1974. In high school he was involved in a variety of activities and sports and is well remembered for his agility and athleticism. Growing up Mike was always involved in the many operations of his parents ranch. After high school he continued to work for his parents and in 1979 he bought the Olic Ranch. He eventually built and operated a ranch just southeast of the family homestead. In 1998 he gave up ranching, moved to the Rapid City area, and pursued a career in general construction. In 2002 he moved to New Underwood where he continued his construction business in partnership with his nephew. Mike loved to ride, rope, fish, water ski, toss horseshoes, dance, play cards, and work with wood. He was a loving father to his four daughters and a great friend to all who knew him. Mike is survived by four daughters, Latona (Toby) Austin, Smithwick, Andrea Olic, Scenic, Hope Olic, Faulkton, and Mikala Olic, New Underwood, his mother, Margaret Olic, New Underwood, three sisters, Connie (Arlen) Carmichael, New Underwood, Carolyn Thompson, Rapid City, and Carla (John) Dean, Platte and special friend, Michelle Swallow, New Underwood. He is preceded in death by his father, Frank and by his grandparents. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 3 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 4 at Open Bible Christian Center, 2225 East Saint Patrick Street in Rapid City, with the Reverend Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial will follow at the Scenic Cemetery.
