IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Brooks
Roduner
October 1, 1950 – February 2, 2024
Michael Brooks Roduner, of Rapid City, SD passed away peacefully with family at his bedside February 2, 2024, at the Sturgis, South Dakota, Hospital Hospice Suite.
Mike was born October 1, 1950, to William and Ruth Roduner in Pipestone, MN. Prior to his birth his father was deployed to serve in the US Army during the Korean War. His mother was staying with her parents when Mike was born. Significant birth complications threatened both Mike and his mothers' lives and his father was able to return for one month. With both doing well he returned to Korea for another year of Service. When his father returned to the states they moved to St. Paul, MN where his father obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. This is also where Mike had a new baby brother (James Roduner). When Mike was 5 they moved to Ruthton, MN where his father opened a large animal veterinary practice. After several years his father took a position as a Federal Meat Inspector in Brandon, SD and then transferred to Mitchell, SD where Mike graduated High School. He attended South Dakota State University and then graduated from Colorado School of Trades in Denver, CO as a Certified Gun Smith.
After graduation he moved to Custer, SD and opened a shop where he did gunsmithing and sold firearms. He met his lovely wife, Janice Bradeen, through her grandmother that owned the shop he was renting. They were married on February 15, 1975. After a few years of marriage, they settled in Rapid City, SD where Mike became a kiln operator at the South Dakota State Cement Plant until he retired in 2012. Upon retirement, he became Captain of his wife Janice's "Honey do list" and helped wrangle children in her home daycare.
Mike enjoyed anything and everything outdoors! He loved firearms of all sorts, especially traditional muzzleloaders, and black powder cartridge rifles. He crafted many muzzleloaders from blanks of wood and self-lathed barrels. Mike was a reloading connoisseur of all calibers of ammunition, both smokeless and black powder. It was a standing joke, although true, that he would say a little prayer on every "reload" for his daughters and grandkids and that was the true reason behind their success. His favorite hunting partners were always his two daughters (and later on his grandchildren) who shared the same passion of hunting, camping, and fishing. He always made sure his daughters and grandkids understood the importance of ethical hunting and gun safety.
Mike was always known for his warm smile, kind and caring personality, and wiliness to help anyone. He never complained and always maintained a positive outlook, even with all the trials he had to endure with his medical ailments throughout his life. Mike had an unwavering Christian faith that was an inspiration to others. During the times when his health allowed, he enjoyed being active in the church by volunteering whenever able and serving as a Deacon. Beyond his active role within the church, he also enjoyed mentoring youth by volunteering with the Boy Scout Camp and taking local youth hunting, fishing, and shooting.
Mike was survived by his loving wife Janice, whom they would have shared their 49th wedding anniversary this year. He has two daughters, Patricia Holmes and Rebecca Badgley (Kendall), both from Cheyenne WY. He also has four Grandchildren whom he absolutely adored; RuthAnn, Ameila, and Gavin Holmes along with Kenley Badgley. He is also survived by his brother James Roduner (Susan) of Rapid City, SD. as well as numerous nieces and nephews along with other extended family.
He was proceeded in death by his parents William and Ruth Roduner.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am MST on Friday, February 16th 2024, at Westminster Church, Rapid City South Dakota.
