Mildred Hamm, 95, of Hill City, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026 at Monument Health – Custer Hospital. Mildred was born on August 18, 1930, in Camp Crook, SD to Edgar and Dorris (Elliott) Coffield.

She spent most of her life as a resident of Hill City and graduated from Hill City High School and later attended college where she earned an Associate’s Degree. On November 22, 1949, She married Gene Hamm. They built a life and family together in Hill City, having three children and operating the Gambles Hardware store for many years. Mildred was very social and loved being with family, friends and especially her grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. She was involved in the Fife and Drum Corps as well as several church groups.

Mildred is survived by her children; Son, Doug Hamm (Eileen), Daughters; Gwen Shellito and Nancy Yargus (Mike), nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Gene Hamm, grandson, Sean Shellito and her granddaughter, Amy Yargus.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 18 at the Little White Church in Hill City. Burial will follow at Hill City Cemetery.
