Mildred 'Nanny' Haxby, 92, pased away at her daughter's home on Thursday, November 10, 2011. She was born on March 6, 1919, in Roswell, SD, to Clark and Anna Marie (Jensen) Barden. She graduated from Fedora High School. After high school, she was employed in the rationing office and she met and was united in marriage to Henry 'Roy' Haxby on June 8, 1946, in Pipestone, MN. The family lived in eastern South Daokta in the communitites of Argonne, Roswell and Howard areas and moved to Rapid City. They went through the Flood of '72 and moved to Philip. There she worked at the Register of Deeds office and the Good Samaritan Center. She retired and moved to Rapid City and did demos for Family Thrift. Nanny will be remembered for crocheting, knitting and her love for flowers and plants. She also enjoyed visiting with whomever she met and no one was a stranger for long. She was a kind and caring person who will be missed by many. Survivors include a daughter, Marie Haxby and special friend, Gary Reif, Rapid City; 2 grandchildren, Stacy Paul and CJ Stewart and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy in 1976, her sister, Elsie Schmit and half brother, Ted Barden. Visitation will be from 3 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, at the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Lawn Memorial Park. A memorial has been established to the Rapid City YMCA, %Elizabeth Sailer, 815 Kansas City St., Rapid City, SD 57701.
