Mildred L. "Millie" Slaughter – Zenker, 73, of Rapid City, died Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
She was born on May 7, 1942 in Evansville, Indiana to William H. and Marie D. (Miller) Slaughter. Mildred graduated from S.D. School of Mines and Technology with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering.
She worked as a consulting engineer for US Steel Storage for many years.
Millie was very proud of her 37 years of sobriety.
Mildred married Edmund Zenker on February 14, 2002 in Rapid City.
She is survived by her husband, Edmund Zenker, Rapid City, her sons; Craig Steinley, Rapid City, Jeff Steinley, Austin, TX, Ted Steinley, Rapid City, her daughter, Julie Schaff, (Ken) Huff, ND, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, her brothers, Gene Slaughter and Kenny Slaughter both of Evansville and Tim Wester, Sanford, NC, two sisters; Dottie Beckerle and Bea Purcell, both of Evansville and many nieces and nephews..
A visitation will begin at 9:00am, Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home followed immediately by a Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 11:00am. Entombment of her ashes will take place at a future date at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Friends may donate in Millie's name to the Vucurevich Cancer Care Institute or the Humane Society of the Black Hills.
