IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Miriam Ruth
Dunmire
September 7, 1924 – December 29, 2025
Miriam Ruth Dunmire, 101, of Rapid City died Monday, December 29, 2025 at Westhills Village Health Care. She was born on September 7, 1924 at Kennebec, SD to Elmer and Ida (Bisenius) Wagner. She lived on a homestead farm with her family and attended a country school for eight years. The family moved to a ranch at Reliance and she graduated from the Reliance High School at the age of 16. After high school, Miriam moved to Rapid City to attend the National School of Business (Now National American University) and graduated 1941 at 17 years of age. Miriam had hoped to work at the Air Force base but her age didn't allow it, so she landed a job at Rapid City National Bank (now US Bank) as a bookkeeper and teller. She enjoyed her position at the bank for 25 years.
In 1946, while working at the bank, she met a young veteran and CPA, Don Dunmire, and after a short courtship, married three months later. Don and Miriam lived in Rapid City for 68 years and throughout their marriage they enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling. After Don's retirement in 1982, the couple spent their winters in Cathedral City, California for 30 years.
After Don's passing in 2015, Miriam continued living at Westhills Village and spent most of her time playing computer games, reading, and watching golf. She will be remembered as a very generous woman with a quick wit, infectious laugh, and a warm smile.
