February 17, 1928 – November 29, 2020
Mirl was born February 17 th , 1928 to Clifford Briggs Searles and Inez Mabel (Snyder) Searles in Parsons, Kansas. He gave his life to the Lord and in doing so entered LIFE Bible College. While in LIFE Bible College, he married the love of his life, Nelda Jane Kimmel on April 6, 1952. Their marriage was a strong bond between two people for 63 years until Our Lord took her home September 19 th , 2015. Mirl has longed to 'go home' for many years and his longing was fulfilled Sunday, November 29 th , 2020. They are now walking arm in arm basking in the Glory of Our Lord. Together they had 5 children, Mirl A., Jeffrey, Pamela, Judith, and Renee.
Mirl led a full life that included joining the U.S. Marine Corps in Kansa City, Missouri March 25, 1946. Holding the Ranks of Sargent promoted 12/16/46; Rifle Sharpshooter promoted 5/17/46; with Radar Radio Repairman as his Occupational Specialty. He received several accommodations including the Good Conduct Medal; was Issued Honorable Service Button & Honorable Discharge Lapel Button and being awarded Certificates of Satisfactory Service. He was authorized to wear the World War II Victory Medal. Mirl was Honorably Discharged March 24th 1949.
Mirl and his wife Nelda were both Four Square Ministers and over the course of their marriage served churches in Iowa, Indiana, California, South Dakota, Colorado, Missouri and Kansas since 1953. During his early ministries he received a Degree of Associate in Arts from Cerritos College in 1964.
By trade Mirl not only worked part time & full time in his Ministry, but, also as a full time Tool and Die/Machinist for several companies, including GM, AC Delco, Byron Jackson, Lockheed Martin and Boeing Industries until his retirement. During his years with Boeing he worked on building parts for the Moon Buggy that was left on the Moon by Apollo 12. During this build of the steps for that Buggy, his name is engraved on the underside of one of the steps.
In June of 2004 he and Nelda relocated from California to South Dakota to spend their last years in a place that they loved.
Survivors include one sister Myra Jean (Searles) Thomas, of Pensacola, FL, son Mirl A. (Ellen) Searles of Piedmont, SD, Pamela K. Coltrain (Searles) of Sharpsburg, GA, Judith D. (Lynn) Richardson, of Lake Hughes, CA, Renee L. Searles of Lancaster, CA, grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Mirl is preceded in death by his wife Nelda, his parents Clifford and Inez, siblings William "Bill", Clifford "Ben", Mary, and Joanne, son Jeffrey and grandson Joseph Daniel.
Private services will be held with burial at Black Hills National Cemetery.
