Monte C. "Mark" Markeseth, 77, died at his home on Saturday, March 18, 2017.
Mark was born on March 19, 1939 in Pasadena, CA to Selmer and Esther (Case) Markeseth.
After serving as town marshal for the city of Sundance, he was appointed deputy sheriff in 1966 and soon after joined the Wyoming Highway patrol. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1972 as a captain. In 1981 he ranched in the northeast corner of South Dakota near Sisseton. Monte served at the commander for the American Legion Post 50 in Sisseton.
Mark was proud to be and vocal about being a republican and a half. He was a faithful member of VFW Post 1273, serving on the Honor Guard, a member of American Legion Post 22, an avid hunter and very strong supporter of the NRA.
Mark is survived by numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife and son due to a car accident and a daughter and grandson.
A visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at Noon on Friday at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will be at 1:30pm at Black Hills National Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 Honor Guard.
