Obituary

Morris Le Compte, 72, died at Rapid City Regional on Wednesday, February 2, 2011. He was born on September 17, 1938, in Cheyenne Agency to Casper and Virginia (La Plant) Le Compte. He grew up in White Horse and attended St. Joseph's Indian Catholic Boarding School, Holy Cross School in Timber Lake, spent 2 years in Tucson, AZ and then to the Flandreau Indian School. In the summers, he enjoyed being a cowboy working for the area ranchers. He then entered the Air Force for four years of service from 1957-1961, spending some time in England. After the service, he received barber training and then went to the state of Pennsylvania to join 2 of his brothers to work as a power company lineman. He was united in marriage to Sarah Johnson, and the couple had 3 daughters, Karen, Sarah Virginia 'Ginny' and Cheryl. His lineman job took him all over the country until his retirement in 1997 to Rapid City. He enjoyed taking his mother on trips to see his siblings and was a great tour guide. Morris had many one-liners loved NASCAR, playing BINGO, and going to the Millstone Restaurant every day. Survivors include 3 daughters, Karen Le Compte, Addison, AL, Sarah Virginia 'Ginny' Le Compte, Cullman, AL and Cheryl Le Compte, Cadum, NM; a sister, Vivian (Robert) Smith, Mobridge, a brother, Ivan A. Le Compte, Ridgeview, 8 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, extended family and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Louie, Leo, Buster, Paul, Steve, Edward, Eugene and David Le Compte and a sister, Memoree Le Compte. Visitation will be on Saturday, Feb. 5, from 2 until 4 pm., with a scripture service and rosary at 3 pm at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Feb., 7 with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota National Guard.
