Hermosa - Myron Theodore Olson age 100 years, 4 months, and 5 days passed away December 26, 2013 at Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip, SD, with his daughter by his side. Myron was born August 21, 1913 in Sioux Falls, SD to Axel and Minnie (Hedstrom) Olson. He joined four older sisters. He attended school through the eighth grade. He then stayed home to help on the farm. As a young man he moved to the New Underwood area and farmed property purchased by his father. Deciding that farming was not for him he traveled to Montana where he worked in the logging camps for several years. In around 1952 he was introduced to Violet Williams by a mutual friend. After a long courtship, they were united in marriage on January 10, 1965. They welcomed a daughter Robin in November of the same year. Myron and Violet ranched together in the Hermosa and Scenic areas throughout their lives. Myron remained very active throughout his life. Even into his 80s neighbors would comment that they couldn't keep up with him when it came time to check and fix fences. He was a quiet man but could speak volumes just by his expressions. The nurses that cared for him during the past month often commented what a joy he was to be around. Their kind and compassionate care was greatly appreciated by him and his family. Myron is mourned by his daughter Robin Bierle and son-in-law Kory; grandchildren Kruse, Sage, and Bailey; his nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Violet; his parents; and his sisters Agnes, Hazel, Alice, and Helen and their spouses. A Memorial has been established to the Suncatchers Therapeutic Riding Academy. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 10:00 am Friday, January 3, 2014 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard, Rapid City and Myron's funeral service will be at 10:00 am with Rev. Randy Ellendorf officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Park Cemetery at Hermosa, SD. An online guestbook for Myron may be signed at www.osheimschmidt.com
