Obituary

RAPID CITY--Myrtle C. Lantz, 96, of Rapid City, passed away peacefully Friday evening January 18, 2013, surrounded by loving family and friends at Golden LivingCenter-Black Hills. She was born July 30, 1916, to Roy and Minnie (Halgrimson) Cramer. She grew up on a farm with her 6 siblings in Presho. After high school graduation, she followed her high school sweetheart, Dale Lantz to Rapid City. They were united in marriage June 24, 1936. They became the proud parents of 4 sons. They owned and operated several businesses in Rapid City, including Canyon Lake Market for 20 years, Canyon Lake Laundromat and were co-owners of Black Hawk Ditching. They shared many nights together playing cards and dancing with a large group of friends Dale and Myrtle moved to Grand Junction, CO for 12 years, where Myrtle enjoyed gardening and canning. After retirement they returned to Rapid City. They enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states. They shared their love of camping and fishing with their sons and 5 grandchildren. They were active members of Community Lutheran Church in Hill City. In 1989 they lost their retirement home to a fire and were forced to rebuild. Life changed again for Myrtle after Dale's death in 1994. She stayed active in the church and at the Hill City Senior center where she enjoyed playing cards with her many friends even after the Alzheimer's caused her to exclaim "oh, new rules?" She enjoyed singing and entertaining at the local nursing homes with the group from the senior center until she was 89 years old. She lived with Cliff and Rita, her son and his wife for 5 years before her declining health determined her final move to Golden Hills Living. A special thank you to the caring staff there. She is survived by son Cliff Lantz and wife, Rita of Rapid City; her son Barry Lantz of Thornton, CO; 5 grandchildren Chris Lantz of Scottsdale, AZ.; Carrie Liuato of Mesa, CA.; Heidi Garaux of Dumfries Virginia: Sarah Lantz of Phoenix, AZ.; Jeremy Lantz of Northglenn CO. and 7 great grandchildren. As well as a host of nieces, nephews and dear freinds. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, sons Dickie and Dana, 3 brothers Hank, Marion and Roy, and 3 sisters Gertrude, Alice and Ruth. Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday January 26 at Oshiem & Schmidt Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour before the service. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City.
