Obituary

Angela Neileen Greff, 88, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, December 4th, 2015, in La Pine, Oregon where she had lived for the last 8 months with her son, Robert and his wife Andrea.

She was born at her family's farm in Regent, North Dakota, on September 2nd 1927 to Francis (Frank) Joseph and Mary (Marie) Elizabeth Weinberger. After attending rural Cherry Butte School from 1st through 10th grade, she went to the city and graduated from Mott High School in 1945. Neileen worked as a bookkeeper at the Gamble Store in Mott, and was then certified and hired by the Prairie Home School in Hettinger County and taught school for 3 years.

She married Godfrey K. Greff on September 14th, 1948 in Regent and lived most of her life in Garrison ND, raising seven children. When the youngest entered kindergarten, Neileen did something unusual for a woman in those days – she went to work full time for the United States Postal Service, and worked there for 29 years before retiring. Neileen attended St. Nicholas Catholic Church and was a member of St Ann's Altar Society. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, was an avid bowler in winter and golfer in summer, and was a Leader in 4-H Club for over 40 years.

One of her greatest joys was teaching and seeing young people learn something well. She loved to travel and over her life made trips to Europe, Canada, Hawaii, Alaska and a great portion of the mainland United States. She was an accomplished seamstress, a gifted artist, played the piano by ear, sang in the church choir and made the best caramel rolls and Russian Tea Cakes in the country according to her family. She loved to dance and play cards and games and often entertained and cooked for groups of 30 or 40 or more at their home.

Neileen is survived by her seven children, Brenda Vacca of Everett WA, Ricky (Rick) of Choctaw OK, Robert of La Pine OR, Joel of Saratoga WY, Carleen Bennett of Reno NV, Carla Gustin of West Fargo ND, and Arlon (AJ) of San Tan Valley AZ; 16 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, both of her sisters, three brothers and her parents.

Christian funeral mass will be offered on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at 10:00 AM, at Baird Memorial Chapel, 16468 Finley Butte Rd., La Pine, OR 97739.

Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
