Obituary

Noelyn H. "Red" Olson was born March 28, 1948 in Valley City, ND to Harold and Nona (Bruhschwein) Olson. His life's journey came to a sudden and unexpected end at the age of 70. He died of a massive heart attack Saturday morning, June 30, 2018 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

His early years were spent in Marion, ND where he graduated from high school in 1966. In August 1967 he was drafted into the US Army. He had a tour of duty in Viet Nam serving with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade where he was wounded in combat. Upon completion of his military service, Noelyn was honorably discharged in August 1969.

He returned to Marion where he began farming. About 1989 he moved to Deadwood, SD where he worked as a blackjack dealer in several casinos. He later moved to Hot Springs, SD and in 2005 he moved to Buffalo Gap, SD. He worked at the VA hospital in Hot Springs and part time at Federal Express. He retired in 2010. Although Red left the farm many years ago, the farm never left Red. He had several horses, cows, and chickens that he took care of daily.

He will be missed by those who knew him. Especially by his nieces and nephews who knew him affectionately as "Uncle Red". Also feeling a deep sense of loss is his sister, Linda Robbins, who talked with him daily.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, July 6, 2018 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Burial will be at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
