RAPID CITY- Ona J. Christensen, 81, died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at her home. Ona was born on December 4, 1931 at Colton, to Theander and Ellen S. (Almie) Bunde. She grew up in Lane and was active in 4-H. She graduated from Lane High School and went on to Augustana to become a teacher. She taught in country schools in near Badger. In May, 1954, Ona married Herbert Christensen in Badger. Herbert had two previous children with his late wife. The family moved to Rapid City in 1955. Ona taught at Big Bend Country School on Rimrock Highway. Ona also worked on the electrical assembly line for MPI/SCI. She worked her way up to a Quality Assurance position and retired in 1985. Her hobbies included sewing, making quilts, crocheting, and walking. She will be remembered for her generous spirit and being very open-minded. Survivors include five children: Betty (Emil) Valdez, Colorado Springs, CO; Keith (Mary) Christensen, Manitowoc, WI; Mark (Tracy) Christensen, Neenah, WI; Sonya Christensen, Rapid City and Steve Christensen, Piedmont; two grandchildren, Doug and Yvonne; two great grandchildren, Ashton and Anthony; and two great-great granddaughters. Ona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herbert in 2008, a son, Larry in 1990 and sister, Maxine Miller. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis at 3:00 p.m. A procession will leave the funeral home at 2:15 p.m.
