RAPID CITY -- Orval H. Hemmingson, 79, Rapid City, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Orval Hemmingson was born on May 31, 1931, to Henry and Hattie (Mathre) Hemmingson in Clark County. The family moved to Sioux Falls in 1937 and he graduated from high school there. In 1950 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and spent three years in Germany. In 1954 he moved to Rapid City and in 1956 he started working for Buckingham Wood Products, where he worked in various construction related jobs until 1978, when he started his own home building construction company. In 1958 he married Marion Baker in Sioux Falls. He is survived by his fiance, Evangeline 'Van' Rau, Rapid City; and 14 nieces and nephews, Ardyce Pearson, Kansas City, Janyce Bedessem, Bradenton, Fla., Anita Geisler, Manchester, Mo., Haroldine, Fadel, Temecala, Calif., Dorothy Connelley, Belle Fourche, Dr. Leslie Hemmingson, Le Mars, Iowa, Lavonne Yoder, Grand Rapids, Mich., Terry Hemmingson, Sutton, Neb., Dixie Buffington, Sioux Falls, James Kjosa, Omaha, Neb., Donald Jensen, Oldham, Karen Martin, Bristol, Betty McIntyre, Westbrook, Maine, and Edward Bennell, Longmont, Colo. His wife, Marion; parents; two brothers, Harold and Elbert; and three sisters, Arline, Elsie and Dorothy preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota National Guard.
