Obituary

Palmer Anthony Kverne died Monday, March 24th, 2008 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born to Knute and Anna Martina (Surfondon) Kverne on February 14th, 1919, on the island of Surfondon, Norway. At the age of 9, he boarded a ship and moved to America with his family. On January 16th, 1941, he married Irene Paulsen in Clark, SD. Daughter Nadine was born January 3rd, 1942, son Palmer Jr. was born May 3rd, 1943 (he died in infancy), and daughter Deborah was born November 27th, 1950 (she died at the age of 28). In 1954, the family moved to Rapid City from Hot Springs where Palmer began working for Buckingham Wood Products and Midwestern Homes. In the early 1970's Palmer went on his own, constructing now homes and remodeling others. He also did the fine finishing work for houses built by Knechts. In later years he enjoyed restoring horse collars by adding mirrors and clocks. Palmer enjoyed time with his family every chance he had. He is survived by his wife Irene; daughter Nadine (Don) Warren of New Underwood, SD; granddaughter: Vicki (Rod) Volmer of Owanka, SD, great-grandchildren Candy (Brant) Wilcox and their son Gavin, Kyle (Tabitha) Volmer and their daughters Ashley and Nicole, and Wyatt Volmer and his son William; granddaughter Kerri (Clinton) Smith of New Underwood, SD, great-grandchildren Brandon Smith, Emily (Nick) Hanson and their daughters Alyssa and Tristen, Devin Smith, and Travis Smith; granddaughter Wendi (Jeff) Roberts of New Underwood, SD, great-grandchildren Lacey, BreeAnna, and Cord Roberts, grandson Chad (Tammy) Merchen of Rapid City, SD, great-grandchildren Levi, Colby, Madeline, and Donivan Merchen; granddaughter Kristi (Clayton) Lemke of New Underwood, SD, great-grandson Dusty Merchen; son-in-law Noyes Collins and his friend Norma DiBartolo of Hartford, CT, granddaughter Colette (Richard) Holmes and great granddaughters Skylar and Brynn Holmes; granddaughter Tamarah Collins; and Palmers' sister Nellie Bye of Huron, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents Knute and Martina Kverne, son Palmer Kverne Jr., daughter Deborah Collins, sister Anna Wolkow, brother Keith Kverne, and great-grandson Clay Lemke. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday, at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Blvd. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 402 Kansas City St., with Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City.
