Obituary

Rapid City – Pat was born to Adna and Phyllis Keys on March 7, 1947 and passed away into the next life January 5, 2025.

Pat was the first born of three children. She graduated from Riggs High School in Pierre, SD. Upon graduation she attended SDSU.

In 1966 she moved to Washington, DC working for D.A.S.A. in the Pentagon. In the spring of 1966, she married Ed Hull. Around 1968 her and Ed moved back to Pierre, SD. Pat went to work for the Department of Agriculture. Around 1973 she went to work for the South Dakota Bicentennial Administration. In Pierre resides a granite plaque with the names of those involved, with Pat's name as secretary for the Bicentennial.

Once the Bicentennial was dissolved, she went to work for the South Dakota Bankers Association, during this time she also started part time at the Elks Club, where she met Larry Nelson (the manager). With both of them being recently divorced they enjoyed each other's company and married on September 20, 1982, moving into a beautiful Rapid City historical home in the West Boulevard area making it their forever home!

Together Larry and Pat ran Capitol Leasing and several trailer courts. They made a good partnership, with Larry managing and Pat making an excellent secretary. In the summers of 1983 and 84 she worked at the Black Hills Greyhound Racing. Pat and Larry enjoyed flying and took several vacations, enjoying the sites of Mexico and other parts of the United States. Pat was accustomed to flying as her dad and brother were both pilots.

They spent a lot of their summers at the Nelson Family cabin in Spearfish, SD, enjoying time with friends and cross-country skiing in the winters. Pat loved her home, and her passion was her garden and love of animals, enjoying arts and crafts biking the Mickelson trails, and cities bike paths, researching about history, reading various novels, and collecting antiques.

Pat is survived by her brother Ken (Marcela); sister Kathy; step children: Todd, Mary, Lane; and six step grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren; and nephews and a niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Adna and Phyllis, husband Larry, stepdaughter Nena, and step son-in-law Glen Kane.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stillwater Hospice or the Humane Society of the Black Hills.

There will be a Family/Friends Gathering at a later date.

Burial will take place at the Riverside Cemetery in Pierre in the spring of 2025.
