Rapid City – Patricia Ann Ryland, 79, Rapid City, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at her home.
Patricia Ann Hurley was born May 4, 1936 at St. Paul, MN, the daughter of James and Mary [Staudenmaier] Hurley. She grew up in DeSmet with her mother and step-father Augie Poline and her brother Dick. She attended school at DeSmet. On June 1, 1957 she married James Russell Ryland at DeSmet. Jim and Patty had four sons.
Patty was truly a devoted wife who always took loving care of her husband Jim. She was a stay-at-home mom, raising the three boys and Lanny Pexa. Jim and Patty loved their sports, and they got all of their son's involved into sports at an early age which continued through high school and college. She had scrapbooks full of articles and photos of their boys. Later in life she also helped raise her grandson, Zachary Ryland. Patty was the best neighborhood mom. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts, she was a great cook and if you played cards or Yahtzee against her you're bound to be on the losing end. She also very much loved her cats.
Survivors include her sons: Tony [Nancy] Ryland of Waverly, SD, Tom [Suzette] Ryland of Rapid City, Rob Ryland of Rapid City, and Lanny Pexa of Denver, CO; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and step-father, husband Jim, an infant son Michael, and brother Dick Hurley.
Memorial services will be 10:00 am Monday, March 21, 2016 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Gross officiating.
Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Rapid City.
