Obituary

Patrick Martin Duffy, 82, Aberdeen, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Norton Guest Home in Rapid City, SD. The son of Martin and Anna (Brossart) Duffy, he was born July 29,1925, in Aberdeen. Patrick graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1943. After graduation, Patrick held various business related jobs. After his father's death in 1947, Patrick worked and took care of his mother until her death in 1975. During this time, Patrick became employed with the Internal Revenue Service, where he worked for 28 years. On May 26,1979, Patrick was united in marriage to Florence E. Giesen at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen. They spent many happy years together. Patrick and Florence were often seen at their favorite dining places in Aberdeen, enjoying the company of their many friends. After his retirement from the Internal Revenue Service, Patrick became a member of the staff at the Aberdeen Senior Citizen's Center. During his retirement years, Patrick enjoyed landscaping and planting many beautiful trees, shrubs, and flowers in his yard. He was a devoted husband, and cherished the many friends and family members who were a part of his and Florence's life. Patrick will always be remembered for his gentle spirit and kind nature. He was a true Irishman, blessed with a twinkle in his eye and a special faith in God. Survivors include his niece, Cathleen A. Minton (Bill), his nephew, Timothy P. Minton, M.D. (Mary), a great niece, Laura Ellis (Zeb), all of Rapid City, and 4 great-nephews, Ryan, Bozeman, MT, Neal, Laramie, WY, Ross and Trevor, Rapid City. Patrick was preceded in death by his wife, Florence E. Duffy (August 4, 1999) of Aberdeen, by his sister, Ann M. Minton (January 19, 2008) of Rapid City, by his brother-in-law, Melvin M. Minton (July 8, 1996) of Rapid City, and by his mother and father. Wake services will be held on Sunday at 7 p.m. at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Avenue NW, with Christian Wake service and recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 2 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 Third Avenue SE, with the Rev. Ed Pierce as celebrant. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his honor.
