Obituary

Paul Hermanson, 77, and formerly of Rapid City died Tuesday, August 20, 2024 in Tempe, AZ.

Paul Douglas Hermanson was born on February 21, 1947 to parents Melvin and Marty Hermanson in Rapid City, South Dakota. Paul grew up working in his family's grocery store, Hermanson's Food Market, hauling groceries and bagging potatoes for sale. His idyllic childhood was something out of "Leave it to Beaver."

Paul married the love of his life, Ann, had two children, moved to Phoenix in the 1970s and began working for a large national accounting firm, now Deloitte, where he rose to the level of partner. He left it all to retire in his 40s, living his last 30 years travelling, golfing and operating Meadowood Lanes with his brother Gary. He had a second act as a dad when son Austin was born in 1996 and step-daughter, Sophia, joined the family in 2008.
Paul loved gin and tonics, ice cream, movies and Phoenix Suns basketball. His old friend Greg Yates summarized Paul's legacy best when he said, "he was such a good and righteous man of integrity. He was brilliant, very hard working, totally reliable, dependable, loyal, forthright, honorable and admirable…an ideal example of a good human being."

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edwin and Glenn, and son Edward.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Michele Hermanson of Phoenix, son Austin Hudson of Phoenix, step-daughter Sophia Hermanson of Dallas, brother Gary Hermanson of Rapid City and grand-daughter Annie Chaves of Phoenix.

Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 10:00 am and a celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 31 all at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Rapid City.
