Obituary

Paul Alan Holt was born July 1st, 1963 in Faulkton, SD to Dolores and the late Marion Holt.

Paul was the baby of the family and grew up on his family farm in Cresbard, SD with his brother Brent and sisters Sheryl and Lori. Paul had many fond memories of being a farm kid. He attended school in Cresbard, SD up until his high school graduation in 1981. He played football and basketball for the Cresbard Comets and also participated in choir. One of his proudest achievements at this time was owning a Trans Am. He would often speak about the mischief he would get into while growing up in a rural area and would love to regale others with his stories and memories.

In December 1987, Paul married Stacy Jacobson of Roscoe, SD. In the early days of their marriage Paul and Stacy lived in Vermont and welcomed their first child, a son Jordan, in May 1989. They were brought back to South Dakota when Paul's father became ill. They lived in Aberdeen, SD where Paul worked as a contractor while Stacy attended nursing school. They welcomed their second child, a daughter Haley, in January 1992. They lived in Aberdeen until 1996 when Stacy took a nursing job in Rapid City, SD.

After establishing roots in Rapid City, Paul continued his work as a contractor. He and Stacy welcomed their second son, Jacob, in August 1998. Over the years, Paul took on countless projects, from home builds to a hotel and event center, while running his own contracting business. He and Stacy shared a love of travel and music, taking trips together and catching as many concerts as they could.

Paul never missed a chance to fish. If the weather was decent, you could bet he'd be out on the river with his boat, his tackle box, and his closest buddies, fishing the day away. He was often the target of his kids' teasing but lived for those moments of laughter with his family.

Despite his size, Paul was a softie at heart. He was known for his gentle nature, easy humor, and deep understanding of others. Above all, he loved his wife, children, and grandchildren fiercely and was endlessly proud of them. He also stayed close with his many nieces and nephews, never missing a call, a visit, or an opportunity to talk someone's ear off.

Paul Holt passed away Sunday, November 2nd in Pierre, SD.

Paul is survived by his children, Jordan Holt, Haley (Doug) McCambridge, and Jacob Holt, all of Rapid City; his mother, Dolores Holt of Rapid City; his brother, Brent (Carmen) Holt of Tucson, AZ; his sister, Sheryl (Brad) Hoekstra of Worthington, MN; his three grandchildren, Winnie McCambridge, and Ellis and Charlie Holt; and his many nieces and nephews.
