Obituary

PIEDMONT - Paul E. Minor, 68, Piedmont, died Monday, April 28, 2008, at his home. He was born October 12, 1939, in LaJunta, Colo., to Paul E. and Leona (Smith) Minor. Paul grew up in the Bay Area of Northern California. After attending several colleges and experimenting with various vocational majors, he graduated from Long Beach State College in Southern California with a BS in Police Administration. He began a career in industrial security in the aerospace business while at the same time starting a family and attending graduate school. With a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California, Paul headed back to Northern California for a sales career in the Portland cement industry. That 30-year career allowed him to live and work in great scenic places including Alaska, Colorado, Nebraska, the Black Hills and upstate New York. Prior to his venture east, Paul spent 12 years in Rapid City as VP of Sales and Marketing at Dacotah Cement. Paul and his wife Kathryn returned to their ranch in the Elk Creek area of Piedmont, after four years in Albany, NY. Shortly after returning to the Hills, he enjoyed the challenges that came with being the Executive Director of the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce. Paul always said he had more interests than time, his priorities for leisure activities were hunting, horses and antiques. Each was enjoyed more when combined with good friends. Paul was a founding member of the South Dakota US Marshals Posse and the first board president. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Minor, Piedmont; a son, Christian Minor, and his wife Erin, Seattle, WA; a daughter, Jill Wilhelm and her husband Tim, Long Beach, CA; two stepsons, Gary Thomas and his wife Barb, Minot, ND, and Vince Thomas and his wife, Kate, Rapid City; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Larson and her husband Steve, and Kristin Thomas and her fiancee Brandon Talbot, all of Rapid City; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother. Memorial Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Grace United Methodist Church in Piedmont, with Pastor Steve Trefz officiating.
