Obituary

Pauline E. Galbraith, 91, went home to the Lord peacefully on the morning of May 26, 2023. She was surrounded by her loving family & friends. We believe Pauline was welcomed into Heaven by the loving arms of God, and next in line was Jim, to continue their last dance which is pictured in the bulletin.

Pauline was born in Boston, MA on July 29, 1931, to Salvadore and Elizabeth (LaValle) LaBadessa. Besides her immediate family, Nino and Antonette, both younger than Pauline, she had many dear relatives that lived nearby that she spent time with often. Especially close were her Aunty Anna, cousin Saideh, and Grandmother Antonette. She loved going to visit and bake with her grandmother who spoke only Italian. She loved sewing with her Aunty Anna, which led to her enjoyment of sewing for her children and grandchildren, even so far as sewing T-Rex Halloween costumes for her three grandchildren. Pauline made the best spaghetti and meatballs this side of Italy! Her family enjoyed many special occasions with this delicious meal.

Pauline met the love of her life, James Galbraith, on May 5th, 1952, in Boston, while out dancing with friends. Pauline reminisced, "I loved him since the day I saw him." And Jim said that he knew the first time he saw her that he was going to marry her. Jim talked Pauline into pulling up her Boston roots after Jim completed his service in the Navy. Jim and Pauline moved to Rapid City where they would begin a long and wonderful life together. They were married on July 5th, 1953, starting their lives together with a bang. Before starting their own family, Pauline helped care for Jim's 2-year-old twin brothers Donnie and Ronnie. Pauline and Jim would bring into this world three wonderful children, Charlotte Rowland, Inver Grove Heights, MN, James Galbraith, Jr. and Wanda Sugden, both of Rapid City, SD.

Pauline and Jim lived their lives for each other. They enjoyed fishing at the local Black Hills lakes together. They enjoyed travelling as long as they were together. Pauline enjoyed being a wife and mother. She spent over 35 years as an Avon Representative in the Rapid City area, earning many awards from Avon for doing an incredible job. We always knew she was good at it, possibly because of her even creating homemade treats for her customers' pets. Jim, Jr. tried one once and said that they weren't bad.

The family always thought that nothing on the face of the earth made Pauline any happier than when she and Jim were in each other's arms floating across the dance floor. Anyone that saw them dance could see the great love they had for each other. It was magic!!! They were able to enjoy 64 years together as husband & wife before Jim's passing in 2017.

Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, Sr; mother, Elizabeth; father, Sal; brother, Nino; sister, Antonette; and her aunt, Anna; brothers-in-law Robert, Gerald, Ron and Don; sisters-in-law Rosie and Nonie. She is survived by children, Charlotte Rowland; Jim, Jr; and Wanda (Richard) Sugden; grandchildren, Jessica Rowland (Jed Pfundt), Michael Rowland, and Rachael Galbraith-Sorenson (Chris), and great-grandchildren, Damien Rowland, JJ and Levi Pfundt, and sisters-in-law Twila Galbraith, Linda Galbraith, and Carolyn Dawkins, and many loving nieces and nephews.

We want to thank Vicki Galbraith and Susan Eaton for the countless hours they spent caring for and loving Pauline. We'd also like to thank all staff at Peaceful Pines and Fountain Springs for giving such incredible care to Pauline. And a special thank you to all friends and family who helped get us through these trying times.
