RAPID CITYPauline L. (Lori) Parson, 75, passed away at Rapid City Regional Auxiliary Hospice House on Thursday, May 16, 2013. Lori was born November 16, 1937, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Pauline (Swarm) and Arthur W. Schmidt, the youngest of four children. She attended school in Des Moines, and graduated from North High School in January 1955. After graduation she worked in the accounting department of Blue Cross, Blue Shield and as a clerk in the offices of Iowa Pharmaceuticals. She met the love of her life, Thomas J. Parson, who was in the U. S. Air Force stationed at Lincoln, NE, shortly after graduation and they were married on January 7, 1956. She always said he was her best friend and her Knight in Shining Armor." They had four children, Aimee, Lorilynn, Thomas E. and Yvonne Parson. Tom continued his career in the Air Force for over 20 years, with Lori and their children enjoying the life of a military family, meeting new friends and traveling to new places, each move becoming a new adventure in their family life. When they retired from the Air Force, they returned to Cheyenne, WY, where Tom embarked on a second career with Rockwell International and Lori returned to the work force for several years as a legal secretary and office manager of a law firm in Cheyenne. They continued their travels and adventures for another 20 years, all the while she loved watching their children mature and taking pride in each of their achievements, from taking their first steps to graduations from high school and college, marriages and most wonderful of all, the coming of 10 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. During these years Lori also found time to become a Girl Scout Leader, Little League scorekeeper, learned to bowl, taught each of the children and some of the grandchildren to bowl, as well as her Girl Scout troop members. She bowled at least twice a week herself in leagues, and served as secretary of several leagues at different Air Force bases. When they moved back to Rapid City with Rockwell, Lori joined the VFW Auxiliary (Life Member) and served in all offices of Post 1273 Auxiliary, including President. She was also a life member of the DAV Auxiliary, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 20 years, as well as a member of The Women of the Moose in Rapid City. When health problems forced Lori to stop bowling, she became an avid fan of Bingo, especially at the American Legion and Moose games, which allowed her to continue keeping in touch with many of her friends from the various organizations she belonged to, while helping to support the charitable works. Lori is survived by her husband of 57 years, Tom, of Rapid City; daughters, Aimee (John) Pister, of Kief, ND, Lorilynn (Tom) Hahn, of Lakewood, CO, and Yvonne Bovenzi, of Cheyenne, WY; her son, Thomas E. (Melanie) Parson, of Rapid City; five granddaughters; five grandsons; six great-granddaughters, and one great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
