IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Percy Dickenson
Peabody, Iii
May 26, 1935 – April 20, 2025
Percy "Dick" Dickenson Peabody III was born to Doctor Percy, Jr. and Sarah Peabody on May 26th,1935 in Webster, South Dakota. At the age of 12, Dick moved to Sisseton, South Dakota where he graduated high school and enlisted in the Army. After six years of service in the Army, Dick settled in St. Paul, and began his career with LaBelles. Dick met the love of his life at the LaBelles in Richfield, Minnesota. Dick and Joyce were married in Richfield on October 1,1971. Through their union, came four children, Ann, Jane, Joe, and Malcolm. Soon after marriage, he started opening LaBelles stores in Billings, Montana; Boise, Idaho; Fargo, North Dakota; and finally Rapid City, South Dakota in 1979. Even after the store was acquired by Best, Dick continued to be an extraordinary manager. He treated each employee and customer with the utmost respect and kindness. Dick and Joyce were happy to stay in the beautiful Black Hills to continue raising their children. Their Catholic faith was rooted in the community at Blessed Sacrament Church where Dick enjoyed serving as an usher.
Dick was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed the time he shared with them and was a true example of what unconditional love is. Dick loved his life; you could tell in the way he laughed and smiled, or joked around. You could find him watching the Vikings or the Twins on TV, playing cards, grilling, doing yard work, and playing the guitar. Dick looked forward to family trips as he loved the road and the adventure, visiting family and old friends, especially his beloved sister Sally Ann and brother-in-law Dennis and their children Denise, Patrice, Pam and Jimmy. Most of all, Dick loved watching his grandchildren in the activities they were in. He cheered them all on, near and far, and supported their endeavors.
Dick is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce and his children, Ann (Stephen) Chadwick, Jane (David) Heck, and Joe (Kara) Peabody. He is also survived by his grandchildren James, Nicole, Claire, Gabriel, and Ava. Dick was preceded in death by infant son Malcolm, his parents, and sister Sally Ann.
