Obituary

RAPID CITY- Peter Heilman, 89, Rapid City, died on July 26, 2011. Peter was born February 17, 1922 to Sebastian and Catheryn Heilman in Wellsburg, NoDak. He was the second oldest of eight children. Peter was a WWII Veteran serving as an Army Medic. After the war he attended Wahpeton School of Science and was a journeyman electrician for most of his life. He married Luella Thomas on June 26, 1950 at Selz, NoDak, and then moved his family to Rapid City in 1956 to work at Ellsworth A.F.B. and retired in 1986 after 33 years. He was a member of St. Therese the Little Flower Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and National Active and Retired Federal Employees. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Luella Heilman; a daughter, Evon (Arnold) Ganje, Rapid City; one son, Mark (MaryBeth) Heilman, Coon Rapids, MN; two sisters, Annie Golade, Regina Kraft; one brother, Herman Heilman; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2-4:00 p.m., Sunday, July 31 with a Christian Wake Service at 4:00 p.m. at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 1, at St. Therese Catholic Church with Rev. Bill Zandri presiding. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with Military Honors provided by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota National Guard. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Rapid City Regional Hospital Hospice of the Hills.
