Philip H. Soucy, 61, of Rapid City, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Saturday, December 28, 2013. Phil was born on November 13, 1952, at Rapid City Air Force Station to Henry and Shirley (Evans) Soucy. As a baby the family moved to Danvers, Mass., for 3 years and then to Anchorage, Alaska for the next 8 years. After recovering from a severe case of rheumatic fever, Phil returned to school and during his first recess, he stuck his tongue to the frozen jungle gym and was left there when everyone went inside. In 1964 the family moved back to Rapid City and during high school he worked at the westside McDonalds, where he was very proud of his work team. He graduated from Rapid City High School in 1971 and went on to attend South Dakota State University in Brookings for 2 years. He then moved to San Francisco and was employed for 19 years at Shakey's Pizza, where he was the manager. During this time he was united in marriage to Michelle Gamez on July 16, 1976. They had a son, André Soucy Sept. 12, 1978. He was later united in marriage to Linda Silvestri on November 15, 1988. After Shakey's he was employed at the San Francisco International Airport by the Marriott Corporation as a multi-unit manager for 8 years. In April of 2000, Linda, Phil and his brother Roger moved back to Rapid City to be near their parents. He was employed as the maintenance manager at the Rushmore Mall for 8 years and also worked a couple of summers at the Elks Golf Course as a groundskeeper. For the past 3 years, he was employed by Don's Valley Express Stores. He was always took great pride in every job he had and was also very proud of the many diverse places and people he was able to experience throughout his life. Phil made many great life-long friends and was a very kind-hearted man with simple needs. He loved to golf and fish at Center Lake (but only during the week!) He was an avid reader and also loved the Boston Red Sox and the San Francisco Giants and 49er's. Phil absolutely loved a great nap! Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Linda Soucy, Rapid City; his son André Soucy, Tampa, Florida; his parents, Henry and Shirley Soucy, Rapid City; his brother, Roger Soucy, Rapid City; two sisters, Christine (Tom) McCarty, Rapid City and Stephanie (Randy) Gednalske, Pierre; a brother-in-law, Gregory Lamke, Rohnert Park, Calif.; nieces and nephews, Eric and Nicole Gednalske and Kelly, Ryan (Elena) and their son, Jaxson, and Rebecca Lamke; special friends, Jaycie, Tanner and Garrett Williamson and his beloved Golden Retriever, Sobe. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Allen André Soucy and a sister, Karen Lamke. A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Father Bill Zandri officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of the Black Hills.
