Obituary

RAPID CITY | Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and nurse, Phyllis Hannah Kertzman, 88, passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017.

Phyllis was born on Nov. 4, 1929, to Maurice "Jack" and Rose Hannah. She graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1947, then entered St. John's School of Nursing in Rapid City. While a student nurse, she met Paul Kertzman by caring for him in the burn unit. They married in September 1950, shortly after she graduated and began working at St. John's Hospital, now Rapid City Regional. She earned her Master's in Nursing Administration from SDSU. In 1995, Phyllis retired, a beloved and respected Nurse Manager of the orthopedic and neurology floor.

In retirement, she volunteered over 2,000 hours of her time at the hospital, served actively in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish, was a member of St. John Alumni Association, North American Nursing Association, and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She enjoyed traveling with Paul, planning family reunions, and spending time in the kitchen.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Paula (Bill) Tacke of Yankton, Craig (Edwina) Kertzman and Kristen (Kurt) Hahn, all of Rapid City, and Anne (Mike) of Montgomery, AL; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation begins at 3 p.m., with a 5 p.m. Christian Wake Service and rosary on Friday, Nov. 10, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 4500 Jackson Blvd.

Christian Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the church with Rev. Brian Lane presiding. Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
