Rapid City – Phyllis Barbara Richardt, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Rapid City Regional Hospice Auxiliary House. She fought a courageous battle with cancer that was diagnosed in August of 2016.
Phyllis Barbara Schulz was born June 1, 1935 to Emil and Hertha [Zubke] Schulz in Waubay, South Dakota. After graduating from Waubay High School in 1953 she moved to Minneapolis, MN where worked at the Federal Reserve Bank. In 1955 she met her loving husband Verlin Richardt. They were married on September 1, 1956 in Waubay. They eventually moved to Rapid City in 1961 where they raised their four children. She later worked as a dietary supervisor at Black Hills Retirement Center and Sweeny House.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years: Verlin Richardt of Rapid City, son Scott [Carla] Richardt of Rapid City, daughter Kristi [Darcy] Paluch of Rapid City, daughter LeAnn [Jan] Remily of Black Hawk, son Jeffrey [Virginia] Richardt of Rapid City; grandchildren: Erica [Steven], Erin, Brandon, Corey, Morgan [Jordan], Presli, Brooke, Joshua, Madison, Leah, Isabelle; great-granddaughters: Rylee, Paisli, and Poppi; brother-in-law: John Sinner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents: Emil and Hertha Schulz; sisters: LaVerne [Walt] Barnhardt, Irma [Vernon] Kroeger, and Lois Sinner; infant twin sons: Brent and Blaine Richardt; and infant daughter.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 910 Wood Ave. with Rev. Luke Edwards officiating.
Burial will take place at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
