Phyllis I. Splinter, 85, died Monday, February 13, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in New Underwood.
Phyllis was born on October 31, 1931 to Melville and Rhoda (Skobba) Frisvold in Lake Wilson, Minnesota. She graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1948. After graduation she worked as a nanny for a family in Canandaigua, NY.
She married Leo Splinter on December 20, 1955 in Lake Crystal, MN. Phyllis shared Leo's love of motorcycles and they courted on Leo's bike. Motorcycles became an important part of their 60 years of marriage. Together they raised three sons; Milton, Robert and George.
Being a wife, mother and homemaker was of utmost importance to Phyllis.
In 1970 Leo and Phyllis moved their family to Pemberton, MN.
Phyllis became the station manager with the Pemberton Volunteer Fire Department, one of the first female station managers in Minnesota. Leo retired in 1985 and he and Phyllis moved to Hill City. They lived in Hill City until 2000 when they moved to Rapid City.
Phyllis is survived by her two sons; Robert Splinter, Rapid City and George Splinter (Lori), Waseca, MN, her seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren with another on the way and her sister Melda Burnett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, in 2016, her son, Milton in 2003, her parents and four sisters.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City. Inurnment of her ashes will be at Black Hills National Cemetery.
A memorial has been established by the family.
