Ramey Abourezk, 36, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014, at Rapid City Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family and friends. To many of us, Ramey was our touchstone, the person we always counted on to remind us of who we are, where we belong and what we need. She didn't mince words, and she spoke and acted from the heart -- especially when coming to the aid of those she believed had been harmed or taken advantage of. She once visited a car dealership every day for two weeks to argue with a dealer whom she felt had manipulated her grandmother into buying a car far beyond her means. Eventually, the dealer relented and took the vehicle back. That was Ramey, fiercely protective of her family and her friends. No one wanted to be on her bad side, and those she loved relished in the comfort of knowing they had a fearless and loyal protector. Her free-spirited personality and fearlessness caused her a lot of problems, but her infinite compassion cemented lifelong friendships. She loved life, especially good food, good friends and adventures. Ramey was a shooting star. She burned hot and bright, and then she left us. But she lives on in the hearts of her three children, Juton, Ariana and Taya, her soul-mate Rodney Pourier, her mother Yvonne Long Visitor, her dad Mike Abourezk, and her brother Kevin and his wife Taryn, brother Duran and his mate Heather, and her brother Michael Abourezk. We loved her dearly. An outdoor memorial gathering will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014, at 8550 Nemo Road, four miles northwest of Rapid City. We will share memories, food, music, and friendship with all who wish to join. The family will have a private graveside service on Monday at Mountain View Cemetery.
