Obituary

RAPID CITY- Ramon E. Youngs, 78, died July 15, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family after suffering an illness for 13 years. Ramon was born on October 6, 1934 in Black Duck, Minnesota to Ernest and Edna (Phinney) Youngs. He attended school in Wessington Springs and the Black Duck, MN areas. He enlisted into the United States Army in January of 1949 and was honorably discharged as a SP3 in November of 1953. He served during the Korean War and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Ramon married LaVonne (Vonnie) Withee on November 11, 1956 in Rapid City. To this union two children were born: Ron and Kathy. He was employed by Dacotah Cement for 34 years from 1962-1996 as a Lab Shift Supervisor. Ramon was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed shooting. He was a member of Westminster Church. He will be remembered for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. His zest to life will be missed. The family would like to extend their gratitude for the love and support of family and friends throughout the years. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, LaVonne (Vonnie) Youngs, Rapid City; son, Ron (Erin) Youngs, Gillette, WY; daughter, Kathy (Chuck) Hull; two granddaughters: Melissa (Swade) Prewitt; Tasha (Steven) Lambert; all of Guernsey, WY; three grandsons: Austin Youngs, Gillette, WY; R. Thaddeus Youngs, Casper, WY; and Derik Youngs, Bismarck, ND; and three great grandchildren: Stormie Prewitt, Trey Prewitt, and Sarina Lambert, all of Guernsey, WY. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 19, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dillon Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, with military honors provided by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota Army National Guard.
